DHURANDER MOVIE REVIEW
Randhar is a 2025 Indian Hindi spy action thriller film written, directed, and co-produced by Aditya Dhar. It is produced by Jyoti Deshpande, Aditya Dhar, and Lokesh Dhar under the banners of Jio Studios and B62 Studios. It stars Ranveer Singh, Akshaye Khanna, R. Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, Sara Arjun, and Rakesh Bedi, with Manav Gohil, Danish Pandor, Saumya Tandon, Gaurav Gera, and Naveen Kaushik in supporting roles.[5][6] The film draws inspiration from real-life events, including geopolitical tensions and covert operations by India's R&AW, particularly Operation Lyari, a crackdown by the Pakistani government on gangs and criminal syndicates in the Lyari area of Karachi.[7] With a runtime of 214 minutes, it is one of the longest Indian films ever made.
The first film in the two-part series, Dhurandhar, was released in theaters on 5 December 2025. It received mixed to positive reviews from critics, praising the performances of the ensemble cast (particularly Singh and Khanna), as well as the film's direction, cinematography, atmosphere, music, and world-building, but criticizing its runtime, pacing, and perceived narrative inconsistencies.[8] A follow-up film, Dhurandhar Part 2, will be released on 19 March 2026.[9]
On 30 December 1999, Foreign Minister Devvrat Kapoor and IB Director Ajay Sanyal negotiate with terrorist Zahoor Mistry to pay US$10 million in exchange for the release of three terrorists, including his brother, and the lives of airline passengers held captive in Kandahar. RAW chief K.S. Bhullar rejects Sanyal's proposal to infiltrate terrorist networks in Pakistan, but after the 2001 attack on the Indian Parliament, Kapoor approves Sanyal's "Operation Dhurandhar."
Sanyal sends agent Hamza Ali Mazari to Pakistan via Afghanistan. Arriving in Lyari, Karachi, Hamza meets Mohammad Alam, a juice shop owner. He moves in with him and works as a waiter. During this time, he learns about gangster Rehman Dakait and his rival leaders. Being a Baloch, Hamza can only join Rehman's gang.
Hamza and Alam learn that a rival Pathan gang, led by Rehman's estranged father, Babu Dakait, is planning to kill Rehman's eldest son, Naeem Baloch. The next day, Babu's men attack a wedding attended by Naeem and his younger brother, Faisal; Hamza rescues Faisal, but Naeem is killed. At the hospital, Hamza meets Rehman and his cousin, Uzair Baloch, who recruit him due to his firearms expertise. Jameel Jamali of the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) warns Uzair not to retaliate before the Lyari elections. While associated with the gang, Hamza learns of their illegal production of unlicensed firearms. On Hamza's advice, Rehman decides to avenge Naeem. Hamza, Uzair, and the gang kill Babu's men.
Rehman attends a PPP rally organized by Jameel. Hamza meets Jameel's daughter, Yelina, at the event and later develops a relationship with her. The Khanani brothers introduce Rehman to ISI chief Major Iqbal, a businessman who is encouraging Rehman to enter politics. Iqbal asks him to provide weapons and ammunition. During the transaction, Hamza witnesses Iqbal brutally torturing an Indian spy and learns about Khanani's counterfeit currency business. Hamza relays this to Alam, who informs Sanyal; the Intelligence Bureau suspects Pakistan of possessing plates of Indian currency. While transporting weapons, Hamza discovers a plan for a major attack on India and passes this information to the Intelligence Bureau.
Rehman's partnership with the Khananis angers Jamil, who then appoints former Superintendent of Police Chaudhry Aslam to eliminate Rehman. Aslam arrests Rehman while Hamza searches for the weapons. Hamza sends Jamil a video recorded by Yaleena, revealing Jamil's collusion with Aslam and gangster Arshad Pappu, whom Jamil had promised control of Lyari. Jameel sends Aslam a video demanding Rehman's release; Aslam initially refuses, but relents when Hamza sends him a livestream of himself and Uzair torturing officers from Aslam's Lyari Task Force.
Despite the warnings, the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks occur, leaving Hamza stunned and witnessing them with Rehman and Iqbal's associates. Enraged by his failure to prevent the attacks, Hamza resolves to expose and dismantle Pakistan's terrorist network. He secretly approaches Jameel with a plan to rule Lyari after marrying Yalina, giving Jameel long-term influence through family ties. Hamza then strikes a deal with Jameel and Aslam to eliminate Rehman.
At Hamza and Yelina's wedding, Iqbal asks Rahman for another shipment of weapons. Rahman tells Hamza to check his calendar; taking advantage of Rahman's inebriation, Hamza delivers the weapons that very day.
